Indigenous Data Sovereignty (ID-SOV) is described as the right to control, maintain, protect, develop, and use data as it relates to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their communities (Kukutai and Taylor, 2016). Essentially, it describes how the rights of Indigenous peoples, their experiences, values, and understandings are developed and reflected in the data and information that pertains to them, their communities, and their cultural knowledges.

This course promotes a deeper understanding of Indigenous Data Sovereignty and enables researchers, in different contexts, to confidently use Lowitja Institute’s ‘Indigenous Data Sovereignty Readiness Assessment and Evaluation Toolkit’ in their own setting.
